How to Dress Powerfully at Work
(And Command Respect Before You Say a Word)

You've been in that meeting. The one where someone walks in and the room shifts — not because of what they say, but because of how they show up. There's a composure to them, a quiet authority. Before they've opened their mouth, you already believe in them.

That's not magic. That's workwear done right.

In 20 years of styling women across boardrooms, creative studios, and client meetings from Istanbul to Europe or USA, I've seen one thing more than any other: women who are brilliant at their work, but whose image doesn't reflect it. They're underdressing for the role they want. They're overdressing in the wrong way. Or they're dressing for comfort when they need to be dressing for impact.

"You don't get a second chance to make a first impression — but you get every single day to shape how people see you."

That's the heart of my course Mastering Workwear — Dress Powerfully. And today I want to share some of what's inside.

Why Workwear Is a Strategy, Not a Dress Code

Most women approach workwear as a problem to solve. What's appropriate? What won't get me noticed for the wrong reasons? What can I wear that won't cause comment?

This is the wrong question entirely.

Workwear isn't about disappearing into the background. It's about showing up with intention — as a professional, as a leader, as someone whose image is aligned with their ambition. The women who get promoted, who get taken seriously, who get remembered — they're not the ones in the most expensive clothes. They're the ones whose image tells a consistent story.

Your workwear is a strategy. And like any strategy, it needs to be designed.

The 3 Workwear Mistakes Most Women Make

After two decades in this industry, I've seen the same patterns repeat themselves. Here are the three most common workwear mistakes — and why they cost women more than they realise.

1. Dressing for the job they have, not the job they want. Your image should reflect where you're going, not just where you are. If you want to lead, start dressing like a leader now — not after the promotion.

2. Confusing comfort with casualness. You can absolutely dress comfortably and powerfully at the same time. The key is fabric, fit, and intention — not whether you're wearing heels.

3. Ignoring the context. A look that commands respect in a law firm will feel stiff and alienating in a creative agency. Powerful dressing is always context-aware. Knowing your environment is half the work.

What "Dressing Powerfully" Actually Means

Let me be clear about something: dressing powerfully doesn't mean wearing a power suit. It doesn't mean structured shoulders, dark colours, or looking like you stepped out of a 1980s boardroom.

Dressing powerfully means dressing in a way that makes you feel in command — and communicates that to everyone in the room. It's about alignment: between how you feel on the inside and how you present on the outside.

For some women, that's a tailored blazer. For others, it's a beautifully draped dress in a confident colour. For others still, it's the perfect trouser and a blouse that says "I know exactly who I am."

Power isn't a silhouette. It's a feeling — and it starts getting dressed in the morning.

Building a Workwear Wardrobe That Actually Works

One of the most common things I hear from women is: "I have a full wardrobe and nothing to wear to work." Sound familiar?

The problem isn't volume — it's strategy. A powerful work wardrobe doesn't require dozens of pieces. It requires the right pieces, chosen with intention, that can be combined in multiple ways for every professional context in your life.

In the course, I walk you through exactly how to build that wardrobe — starting with what you already own. We identify your professional context, your personal style, and your ambitions — and we build from there.
